Why I Love Hypnosis

Jan 6th, 2010 by admin

Hypnosis is the most fantastic facilitator to the human mind and hence to human potential. The key to success is in your own mind and hypnosis is the state which will unlock it. This is why I love hypnosis. To not use hypnosis is like having a beautiful airplane, complete with pilot and staff at your disposal, unlimited money for fuel, permission to land anywhere in the world, but to not have the ability to pass on your instructions to these people. I was going to use the analogy of having a train with no engine, but this would be wrong. The engine is there, in full working order; it’s just a lack of communication, or confused communication which prevents the train from steaming off along the tracks or the plane charging down the runway and soaring into the air. How you think is critical to success or failure in life. How you think is critical to how happy you are. How you think is even reflected in your physical health and well being. Your reality is only real because you perceive it as such. It is your own perceptions, and your own interpretation of these perceptions, which create your reality. You and I, at this moment in time, are living different realities. Even if we were in the same room, watching the exact same television program, sitting on the same sofa, we would be experiencing different realities. You could be having a great time, feeling comfortable on the sofa, laughing at what is playing on the television. I, on the other hand, might be experiencing discomfort; I might be finding the sofa to be lumpy, my back sore, my teeth hurting and the program anything but hilarious! I could even not be paying attention to what is going on now and instead be “lost in thought”, perhaps day-dreaming. I could be mulling over something which happened 20 years ago or projecting into the future and imagining something. But whether your thoughts are focused in the present, the past or the future, each thought creates a feeling, a sensation, a good or a bad feeling, and these feelings are real. Your thoughts create your reality. We all know this to be true, so why do so few of us take the time to choose our thoughts more carefully? I fear that the answer to this is that most people do not know HOW to change their thoughts. And so I am on a mission to enlighten people to the empowering and facilitating effect of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a normal and natural state of mind. It is the state between wake and sleep. As you drift off to sleep your brain waves change from the beta waves of normal waking consciousness to the alpha-theta waves of relaxation and sleep. The same shift in brain wave activity is seen in hypnosis. When you dream each night, in the REM state, your brain carries out the task of conflict resolution. This happens each and every night and is vital to our health and well being. Hypnosis facilitates conflict resolution – conflict between what you think you should do and what you want to do, or between what you want to do but do not believe you could do, and so on. Hypnosis allows access to your subconscious mind, to your underlying beliefs and expectations. Thus the state of hypnosis facilitates change within your inner mind. With hypnosis you can change limiting beliefs, and you can also install new and empowering beliefs. You can get the right and left sides of your brain communicating smoothly, you can get your will power and your imagination aligned. With hypnosis you can set your mind to achieve anything you want. You can unlock your talent and creativity and allow yourself to be open to inspiration, happiness and success. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are regularly associated with hypnosis weight loss, stop smoking hypnosis or stop nail biting. But these are just three applications of the empowering ability of hypnosis. You will see from the myriad titles of hypnosis downloads on my website the wide-spread application of hypnosis in your life. What I really love about hypnosis is its unlimited potential; it’s power to change the world, to change YOUR world, YOUR reality, YOUR health and well-being. It really is amazing what listening to hypnosis downloads can lead to. Why not get your plane off the ground with the help of hypnosis downloads? How Suggestible Are You?

Dec 27th, 2009 by admin

I had a conversation the other evening with a group of people who all work in the same firm and in which several colleagues had all lost significant amounts of weight and had kept it off. I asked how they had got started on this course of action. The answer, which everyone was in agreement with, was that one particular person had started to lose weight and was about 20 pounds lighter than before; everyone began to comment upon how good he looked and then one colleague said he would do it too…then the other’s said “if you’re doing it, I’ll do it too”. A reference was made to the “herd instinct”. That’s how it all began. Everyone who joined this group has lost weight and kept if off – EVERYONE. Now that is, I have to say, unusual. Clearly the first person, the leader, inspired a great deal of confidence within the group. I do not know them well enough to know what dynamics were at work, but it is interesting to conjecture what might have happened… Perhaps this “weight loss leader” was someone who was particularly well respected in general, someone who everybody looked up to and tried to emulate. Perhaps this was not the case; maybe this “weight loss leader” was actually a REALLY overweight person, who had tried every diet under the sun and failed in the past, and in losing weight now made everyone think “If he can do it, I DEFINITELY can”. You can see now how diverse the underlying dynamics could be, but whatever they were, they worked. What is also demonstrated is how suggestible we all are, provided we are given the right suggestion. A stage hypnotist knows only too well how to put the human instinct for suggestibility to work. A stage hypnotist will pick the most highly suggestible subject to perform the first “trick” and then work in order from one person to another in accordance with their initial levels of suggestibility. As each person is seen responding to the hypnotist’s suggestion the following person’s suggestibility is raised. And so by the end, the least suggestible subject will become as suggestible as the first subject to be picked. That person’s belief in the hypnotist’s ability is raised, bit by bit, simply by observing the others reactions. The bottom line is that we are all suggestible, given the correct stimulus. I wish I had a dollar for every person who over the years has booked a hypnotherapy session and upon arrival their opening announcement was “I don’t know if this will work as I know I’m not suggestible”. As a hypnotherapist, my job is to work out what is the right “hook” for each person. This job is quite often done before the client arrives; for example, if a heavy smoker has been for a hypnotherapy session and stopped easily, then everyone they tell expects it to work for them, just as if a “larger” person has lost a lot of weight encourages everyone else to think that they can do it too. And so when asked the question of how suggestible you are, the answer is that you are as suggestible as you want to be. It boils down to expectation and desire. We are all inherently suggestible which is witnessed in the way in which we pick up our native tongue, and learn so many things simply by imitating and copying. We are suggestible in things such as clothing fashion, hair style, and choice of career. Every human being is extraordinarily suggestible! Hypnosis Provides Alternative Approaches to Weight Loss

Dec 19th, 2009 by admin

I read an article in the UK press a little while ago which referred to a rather unusual use of hypnosis in the area of weight loss. Most people who have used weight loss hypnosis will be aware that the most usual type of suggestion centers around the changing of habits – eating more slowly, only eating when seated at a meal table, etc – with additional suggestions aimed at altering taste preferences and motivation to exercise. This, broadly speaking, is what we are used to in terms of successful weight loss hypnosis. This article referred to something quite different, although clearly equally effective. The subject was given suggestions not to feel less hungry or to change habits, but instead to believe that they had undergone surgery; to believe that their stomach size had been reduced with the insertion of what is called the “gastric band”, so that effectively their stomach size had been reduced and that they could now only eat small meals. They could simply not eat too much – it is impossible after this type of intervention. Although the type of suggestion is very different, the result is the same. The subject ate less at meal times and lost weight very effectively. I was not at all surprised at the effectiveness of this suggestion, and was pleased to see that the hypnotherapist in question had adapted the suggestion to suit the clients mind set and had not simply made a “standard” set of suggestions. It is important in everything in life to “think outside the box”. Everyone after all comes to therapy with their own unique beliefs and expectations. There is a definite trend towards abrogating responsibility for ones weight gain and desired weight loss. As a community there is a tendency to make justification for weight gain and then to look for an easy answer when one feels “fat”. Far more people turn to surgery these days than ever before. And the medical profession answers this “need” by creating ever more diverse types of surgical interventions. One who is overweight tends to first try dieting. These diets are too numerous to cite here, and most people try a good number of them, and sometimes make several attempts at each one. The next step tends to be pills. Again, there are dozens of different weight loss pills, and most people try one or two brands, possibly more, before giving up once again. Then there are the meal replacement systems. And then there are the companies which will provide individually calorie counted meals for you. And then there is surgery, including the gastric band. It seems to me that the majority of people are disillusioned with “dieting” and just go looking for an easier option. Not only do we look for an easy option, we want to see results today, we want to be slim and healthy RIGHT NOW! We haven’t got time to diet, and we’ve come to believe that diets don’t work, or that they are too difficult. It’s easier to go for surgery and have a gastric band operation and then we just cannot eat too much – it’s impossible. And we don’t have to do anything at all ourselves about our weight. The surgeon is going to do it for us. We have, as I said before, abrogated responsibility, for our dietary choices and resulting weight gain. Reverting to the recent novel application of hypnotherapy for successful weight loss, the therapist managed to work within the mind set of their client. This client did not want to have to “work” at dieting; they just wanted to know that they could not eat very much at any meal. The therapist found a way to do this which the client could relate to, could visualize and imagine. This is the key not only to successful hypnotic suggestion, but also to success at anything in life. The ability to visualize and imagine the end result that you want to achieve is vital to achievement and accomplishment. Hypnosis is what makes that visualization more effective and allows change to happen more quickly than it would without hypnosis. This is because hypnosis allows access to your subconscious mind, the part which controls instinctive behaviors, beliefs and expectations. When in hypnosis your creative mind is more readily available and your power to visualize is enhanced. The right type of suggestion, combined with vivid visualization is a “heady” combination allowing easy and effective change. If only everyone knew and appreciated the wonderful power of hypnosis, they would not be seeking surgery as a short cut to effective weight loss; they would instead be seeking the help of hypnosis downloads to allow them to unlock the power of their own mind.
