Self Hypnosis Techniques for Success

Jan 5th, 2010 by admin

Your reality is largely shaped by the beliefs that you hold. Beliefs can be compared to software that programs how you experience and relate to the environment around you. Who you are and how you relate to the world is controlled by your beliefs. In order to change yourself and your life, the place to start is with your beliefs. The major difficulty in dealing with beliefs is that most of those that affect you are harbored in your subconscious. Many of these subconsciously held beliefs sabotage your conscious efforts to improve your life and remain beyond your conscious control and awareness, impeding you from realizing your full potential. The subconscious is responsible for approximately 90% of a persons mental and physical functions so it makes sense to use the subconscious to create success in all areas of life. Self-hypnosis is a tool available to everyone and you can use it to penetrate the resistance to your conscious efforts and tap into the source of your own personal power. Anyone can generate the thoughts that have the power to change their lives: mentally, emotionally and physically. Know what your objectives are before beginning any session of self-hypnosis. Your objective can be anything; losing weight, improving your health, having a better relationship or making more money. Many people who use self-hypnosis claim that even when they had concentrated their efforts on only one or two objectives that other aspects of their lives improved beyond that which they had focused their intentions. Before starting a session, take note of your state of mind as well as your physical and emotional states. Determine how long your session will last. A session of self-hypnosis consists of four stages. 1. Induction 2. Deepening 3. Trance 4. Awakening Induction Induction is the intentional shifting of awareness from your normal state. Begin to relax by using deep breathing. Taking deep breaths in a rhythmic pattern will begin to relax the mind and body. Another method that can be used in the induction phase is to focus your sight on a single spot, letting your vision naturally blur and allowing the eyelids to close on their own. Deepening Deepening is similar to induction but extends to a deeper level of relaxation. Count down from a number of your choice until zero. Synchronize the count with your deep breathing and gradually put yourself into a deeper state of relaxation as each number is counted. There is no need to pick too high of a number: between 3 and 10 is optimal. If you prefer not to countdown, try visualizing some peaceful, beautiful location. This place could be imaginary or somewhere you have actually visited. Trance Trance is also known as the Auto-Suggestion phase as this is where you will be repeating to yourself a script which describes the positives changes you wish to take hold in your subconscious. This script will be something that you have written in advance. It can be as short as a few words or as long as a few paragraphs. Most importantly, the script should be written in terms of implementing positive chance and avoiding terms describing making changes to negative behaviors or circumstances. For instance, if you are trying to lose weight, repeat something such as, “I eat healthy everyday and feel fulfilled” but do not repeat something like, “I will stop eating so much chocolate”. Once you have become more comfortable and familiar with entering into the trance phase you may decide to try making a longer, more comprehensive script to read or you can record your script to play back during this time. To enhance the effectiveness of the trance phase create the emotion within yourself of how you will feel once you have realized your objective. For someone beginning self-hypnosis, the most asked question is “How do I know when I am in trance?” The reality is that it is different for every individual. Trance is a natural state that exists in everyone. Have you ever been driving and suddenly realized you have gone miles without being aware? Have you ever been so involved in some activity that you lost perception of time? These are examples of natural trance. With time and experience you will recognize your own personal signals to indicate when you are in trance. Signals can be physical, emotional or mental. Below is a small list of examples of possible signals to give you an idea of what to expect. Emotional * Tranquility * Euphoria * Neutrality * Forgiveness * Unconditional Love * Detachment Mental * Altered time perception * Clarity * Wisdom Physical * Tingling * Warmth * Light headed * Floating or levitating Awakening The final phase of your self-hypnosis session is Awakening which simply means returning to your normal state of consciousness. Obviously, it is best to comeback gradually and not with a jolt. This can be accomplished by using the same countdown method as used in the deepening phase except with each step increasing to your normal conscious state. The effectiveness of self-hypnosis is in balancing the intentions of the conscious with the subconscious. The conscious mind is rational and envisions the changes that you want. The subconscious is creative, intuitive and powerful. It creates a reality based on beliefs of which you are too often unaware. By using self-hypnosis, you can program your subconscious mind to work for you to create the life you desire. Results will not appear immediately but with practice and patience the results will be dramatic and well worth the effort. Hypnosis – a welcome alternative to crash dieting

Dec 29th, 2009 by admin

For many the struggle to lose weight is an endless cycle of self sacrifice, low self esteem and resigned acceptance. It is a difficult and daunting task to lose weight, much of the hard work can be rapidly undone when a crash diet ends and normality returns. There are often psychological reasons for overeating such as stress, boredom or sadness. Unless these reasons and patterns of behaviour are changed it is likely that the ‘old ways’ will return. There are alternatives however: Hypnosis combined with Neuro Linguistic Programming and Time Line Therapy has proven very successful. Master Hypnotist Luca Senatore has helped many people lose up to 6 pounds a week. Luca works with the unconscious mind to identify and clear the reasons for unhealthy eating. He then works to establish alternative behaviours creating a healthy attitude towards food and general lifestyle. Luca is currently involved with a documentary recording how a local woman lost a total of 5 stones following a hypnotherapy program. Details of this exciting project will be released in October 2009. Many of Luca’s clients report big improvements in other areas of their life. Julie attended a 2 session program and says: ‘Food does not seem my priority anymore. I eat when I am hungry and find that my portions are smaller. I have now lost a total of 8 lbs!’ Kim has reported: ‘my carbohydrate portions are about half what they used to be and it’s not something I have to enforce, that’s just the way it is. I feel more energetic and my thoughts are naturally turning to exercise in my free time. I am not craving junk food anymore.’ Luca simply claims: ‘diets don’t work, reprogramming your mind to feel less hungry and like certain foods less does.’ Luca Senatore runs East Anglia Hypnotherapy based in Cambridge and is a fully qualified Master Hypnotist, NLP  and Time Line Therapy Practitioner and Life Coach registered with the British Institute of Hypnotherapy. www.eastangliahypnotherapy.com. 01223 303 904 or bookings@eastangliahypnotherapy.com Sales and Marketing Professional with 20 years experience at Corporate level. Lose Weight By Putting Your Mind To Work

Dec 1st, 2009 by admin

We have a hefty problem with obesity in this part of the world. More and more people are trying to lose weight and more are finding it harder and harder to achieve lasting results.
Too Many Diets
There are so many diets or regimes to chose from and of course all of them promise fantastic results. The willing but hapless dieter, who switches from one to another looking for quick and easy results can soon feel a failure when all the weight invariably piles back on or never disappears in the first place.
The plain truth is that many diets do little more than make money for the people who invented them. The real reason why most diets lead to failure is that they rely solely on restricting food intake. As anyone knows who’s embarked on a diet or breaking a habit the moment that you know you can’t have a certain food or something that becomes the only thing on your mind.
Dieting Frustration
Very soon a sense of panic or irritation ensues and your thoughts centre entirely on the very thing you want to avoid. Not much fun. Studies show that in fact around 95% of all people who lose weight through dieting alone subsequently put it all back on.
Successful weight loss.
So what is the right way to succeed?
Well my clients all receive the same advice from me. That is to use their mind to create the ideal future version of their lighter self. That’s the key to create lasting motivation to get what you want especially if you want to be slimmer and lighter.
For example I worked with a client recently who was a professional in her mid-thirties. On the outside she had everything going for her. A loving relationship, a great career and social life. But on the inside her mind was focussed on her failure to lose weight permanently. She was in a trap of yo-yo dieting and trying every slimming fad or diet in the news, only to lose weight and then put it back on plus extra. She felt at her wits end.So when she came to me I asked her to tell me what was it going to be like for her to have lost weight and be exactly how she want to be. Well this threw her for a few moments and she sat in silence. Then rattled off all the things that she’d avoid; such as not having to go to out-sized clothes stores; not having to struggle with which food to eat or not, not having to eat secretly etc, etc.
I explained to her that this thinking meant her mind had to focus on the negative scenario first and that meant that’s where her mind would go whenever she launched on a new diet. I taught her how to train her mind to support her goal. First of all I showed her how to really let her imagination go and see and feel in her mind’s eye just what she’d be like when she had succeeded with her dream. To make sure it was working for her I asked her to include all her senses so that she’d know what she’d be doing, with whom, what will others would be saying to her.
This is a very useful NLP (neuro linguistic programming) strategy that I use and it really helps the mind create the right mental pathways and self-images that means clients begin to positively enjoy the task of losing weight. Then with hypnotherapy we further embed these images and new self beliefs so that new habits around food, eating and exercise can take root and become the norm.
Using this approach means clients usually see me for an initial three sessions and then depending on how much weight they want to lose, only need to see me for monthly back up sessions.
If you want to try this method start by writing out what you want positively as an outcome. By that I mean don’t focus on what you don’t want to happen. Use the above description to guide you. It’s important that you get this bit right because you’re giving your mind instructions to carry out.
Keep this written outcome handy so that you can refer to it and build on it. It can become a symbol for your mind to use to help you get what you want.
Using this method and some other strategies that we worked on together my client has lost over three stone. See what you can do when you put your mind to it. http://www.rocketspanishorbust.com

Weight Loss Therapy

Nov 30th, 2009 by admin

As a therapist, I have found weight loss treatments by far the most challenging in empowering my clients to resolve. I believe that this is partly due to the delicacy with which the leverage must be applied. With smoker for example you can tell them the awful things that smoking does to their body. You can tell them to totally stop, but people cannot stop eating. They have to first explore the challenges they are having with food. This could consist of one or more of the following:
Eating the wrong kind of food – e.g. sweet or fatty foods.
Eating the wrong amount of food – Binging or having large portions.
Eating at the wrong times – Eating before bed, snacking in between meals or using food for a substitute, for example when bored.
Not exercising enough.
Do they know what they should be doing instead?
This is interesting as the people who tell me “I know I should exercise more” often don’t know how much exercise they should be doing or how often. They might have only tried one kind of exercise, such as swimming and found they dislike it. Well of course it’s very difficult to motivate yourself to do something you do not like. When you do something you enjoy it’s much more motivating to get up and go. When you’ve got up and gone you’ll find that you had more energy than you did to begin with.
I also hear a lot of “I should eat more fruit and veg…” That’s five portions to me and you, about as much as you can fit in your own hand is one portion, and it needs to be 5 different F&V each day in a variety of colours.
Ideally avoid man made food such as pasta, bread and pastries, but eat as much F&V as you want. Some fruit and nuts get bad press about their fat or sugar content but remember that natural sugars and fats are good for your body and are used up much quicker that refined sugars and hydrogenated fats. Just ensure you have balance and variety.
What stops them from doing what they should be doing?
There are a variety of reasons here. It could be addiction to certain food, negative associations from the past, sabotage, low self esteem, ignorance, poor routine, over indulgence- There’s a long list and we need to know what is going on for this person. Again there will probably be more than one area covered.
What do they lie to themselves about?
Just one more won’t hurt…I’ll exercise tomorrow….I don’t care anyway…There’s no point in wasting it…I haven’t got time….
What do they want instead, what are their goals?
This is important. It’s vital here to really find out what people are focusing on. Some people will spend their dieting day thinking about all of the things that they want and cannot have. This makes them crave it and feel lack or punishment if they do not permit themselves to have it. If they do have it, they feel guilty. The focus should be on what they can have. Losing weight should not be seen as a punishment, but as a reward. They are doing this because they care about their body. They are going to reward their body by keeping it healthy and helping it to stay alive.
“How fat/ill do you have to get before you get motivated to change this?”
This is a thought provoking question. They might know the answer, in which case send them on their way. Tell them there is no point in treating them as they have already decided not to change until they are “20 stone” or whatever their response is. Hopefully, doing this might give them a shock and accelerate their motivation levels somewhat. They’ll suddenly see you, as their last chance slipping away and having to face the prospect of meeting their worst fear. If they don’t know the answer, push them for one. “So you’re 5 ft 2 and 16 stones and you haven’t yet changed. Would you change if you were 17 stones? Or not until 18?” The ideal client will tell you that they are already at that limit. You then need to test how their motivation will last when they begin to lose the weight. Most dieters have dieted more than once, their weight fluctuates because they forget to stay motivated once the weight has gone. “How motivated are you now on a scale of 1-10? Now imagine having lost half of the weight you desire, how motivated are you on scale of 1-10? Now imagine having lost all of the weight. As you get a feel for that, how motivated are you there on a scale of 1-10? If you find that their motivation is diminishing as you ask these questions, you know that they will probably lose the weight but will need your support to keep it off. This could help you to design a session plan for them. You may not need to direct your sessions towards weight loss but towards maintenance of consistency, motivation and self respect. Never let your clients think of weight loss as changing that one aspect of their lives, they need to understand that it is a total change in lifestyle.
Once these points (and others) have been explored you can begin your weight loss sessions- and the contents of that are a whole other article! Mortgages in Spain

Weight on the Mind – Hypnosis Can Lift It!

Nov 29th, 2009 by admin

Weight, weight loss, diet books, diet fads – you have been on diets, off diets, this is the “forever diet”, you say, only to grow tired at its strictness. It has become an obsession. Lose weight and then regain what you have lost along with a few extra pounds. What do diets actually do – they make you think of food all the time. You have to plan ahead, pack meals ahead of time, anticipate any saboteurs. Always on guard. Is this really how you want to live your life? Being consumed with thoughts of food.
What would life be like if food was not such a prominent feature? Would you know how to redirect that energy to something more productive? Over-eating becomes a comfort. Food is a constant – it is there when you are happy, there when you are sad, it gives you a purpose when bored and what is the result – you body is out of shape.
Emotional eating is very common. Like those who self harm, relief comes when eating but it is fleeting and the emotion you had before is now compounded with feelings of guilt for eating the packet of biscuits or tub of ice cream and you feel even lower.
This is where hypnosis does its best work. Hypnosis in itself is a concentrated relaxation and in the case of weight loss, the concentration is on losing weight. You can stop yourself craving chocolate or cream cakes or whatever your problem food is. You can become motivated to exercise if you feel that is all you need. But where there is emotional eating, then hypnosis and hypnotherapy should be your first and only port of call.
We have two parts to our mind, the left and right side – the left is logical and analytic. It loves numbers – calories, point counting. But we don’t eat with the left side of our brain, we eat with the right side – the emotional side. Unless the emotion that prompts you to eat is addressed then every diet fails and they do, because the emotion is not being looked at only the food and portion size.
Keeping a food diary to include the emotions before you ate and after eating would form part of the process. Remember we are trying to break the habit of a lifetime. As a little girl you no doubt were told to “clean off your plate, there are starving children in Africa” or you fall and hurt yourself “have some ice cream”, you pass your driving test “let’s celebrate with a cake”. The one I love the most, you have lost weight and celebrate by having the foods you had denied yourself! So, the emotional connection to food is obvious – as previously mentioned, it is always there for happy and sad occasions. All major events and milestones punctuated with food.
During a session with hypnosis, we study how you view food. Was food an extension of love? Did you use your weight as a protective layer to keep men away so you wouldn’t have to deal with heartache. These are significant reasons for the subconscious mind to encourage you to keep weight on. If you were overweight all your life and then in adulthood lose lots of weight and then regain it – what has happened. You never experienced your place in the world being thin and all with your weight loss may have come anxiety and your subconscious mind encouraged you to sabotage yourself so you could find your “rightful” place in the world again.
Weight is complex but you can with hypnosis learn to re-programme your subconscious mind. The primary function of your subconscious (and it only has the understanding of a 6 year old child) is to protect you and until you offer new, improved and positive ways to help you, it will continue with the old patterns. You can lose weight and keep it off forever but only if the desire to lose weight is stronger than the desire to stay the same and this time, you have more ammunition to help you, by addressing the emotional needs that food filled and by learning new ways to deal with upset, with happiness and all without involving food.
